Cargo Insurance
From the moment your cargo sets off until it's delivered, we protect it against damage by land, sea and air.
Who is it for?
- Importers and exporters with regular shipments
- Hauliers and carriers working by road, sea, air and rail
- Logistics companies and freight forwarders
- Warehouse and bonded warehouse operators
- Organisations that transport valuable goods, cash or securities
What is Cargo Insurance and what does it do?
Once a shipment is on the road, it's out of your sight. Delays in port, transhipments, bad weather, an accident or a small mishap during loading… At every stage of the journey, dozens of things could affect the value of your goods. Cargo Insurance exists to take on exactly that uncertainty.
The policy covers your goods from the point of loading until delivery at the destination, and is arranged on a per-voyage basis. It applies to sea, road, air and rail transport alike, whether it's a one-off shipment or regular traffic all year round.
If you work as a carrier, freight forwarder or warehouse operator, we can also arrange cover for your own legal liability under the same roof. We look at the type of goods, the route and the mode of transport, and decide with you on the right level of cover.

What does the policy cover?
Depending on the package you choose, some or all of the cover below can be added to your policy.
Cargo Cover
Covers loss of or damage to goods in transit, from the point of loading until delivery at the destination. It applies to sea, road, air and rail transport.
Broad Cover (All Risks / Institute Cargo Clauses A)
The broadest level of cover, protecting against almost all damage caused by a sudden, unforeseen external event during transit. The exclusions stated in the policy still apply.
Restricted and Intermediate Options (ICC C and B)
Restricted cover protects against major risks such as fire, explosion, sinking, stranding and overturning. Intermediate cover adds risks such as earthquake, lightning, cargo falling from the vehicle and water damage.
Valuables in Transit
Protects gold, jewellery, cash and similar valuables against accidents, armed robbery and theft while being transported.
International Road Carrier's Liability (CMR)
Covers the carrier's legal liability for the cargo on international road journeys under the CMR Convention.
Domestic Carrier's Liability
Covers the carrier's legal liability for the cargo on road journeys within Türkiye.
Freight Forwarder's Liability (FFL)
Protects the forwarder who organises the shipment against legal liability to cargo owners.
Warehouse Keeper's Legal Liability
Covers damage that may be caused to goods while they are moved, stacked, loaded or unloaded inside the warehouse.
War and Strikes Extension
Risks from war, strikes, riots and terrorism aren't part of standard cover, but can be added to the policy on request.
Open (Floating) Policy
For companies with regular shipments all year round, we can set up a single contract where each shipment is simply declared, rather than taking out a separate policy every time.
Cover, exclusions and limits vary with the package you choose and the policy's general and special terms. To work out the right set of cover for you, call us on 0850 303 28 66.
Your questions about Cargo Insurance
If your question isn't on the list, give us a call. We'll keep explaining until it all makes sense.
It's not a legal requirement. However, it's often required under letters of credit and sales contracts, especially on CIF and CIP delivery terms, and banks may ask for a policy on shipments they finance.
The policy works on a per-voyage basis. Cover starts when the goods are loaded onto the means of transport at the point of loading, and ends when they're delivered at the destination named in the policy.
It depends on how fragile and valuable the goods are, how they're packed and the route. Broad cover is preferred for sensitive, high-value cargo, while narrower levels may be enough for durable and bulk goods.
Yes. The carrier's liability policy only covers the carrier's legal liability for its own fault, and only up to limited amounts. To fully protect the value of the goods themselves, you need a cargo policy.
Damage caused by packaging that isn't fit for transport is generally excluded. Packaging suited to the type of goods is essential for the cover to work properly.
It's usually based on the invoice value of the goods, the freight charges and any customs costs; in practice, a margin for profit is added on top.
Record the damage in a written report on delivery and notify the carrier in writing. Keep documents such as photos, the bill of lading and the invoice, then get in touch with us. We'll handle the process on your behalf.
