Compulsory Traffic Insurance

The basic, legally required policy for every motor vehicle, covering the damage you might cause to other people on the road.

Who is it for?

  • Anyone who owns a registered car, van, motorcycle or commercial vehicle
  • Drivers whose policy is about to expire and needs renewing
  • People who have just bought a vehicle and want to hit the road as soon as the plates are issued
  • Drivers looking for more protection than the compulsory cover provides
  • Businesses running a fleet of vehicles

What is Compulsory Traffic Insurance and what does it do?

Compulsory Traffic Insurance (Zorunlu Trafik Sigortası) is the first policy every vehicle on Turkish roads must have by law. It doesn't cover you; it covers the other party if you cause an accident: damage to another vehicle, medical treatment for anyone injured, and compensation for permanent disability or death.

The cover amounts are set by law every year, so the core policy is the same whichever insurer you choose. The difference lies in the service and in the extra cover you can add on top. We bundle options such as increased third-party liability, seat personal accident cover, legal protection and roadside assistance into one package, so your compulsory policy fits what you actually need.

Renew on time and you move up the no-claims ladder, which brings your premium down. From your first quote to the day you need to make a claim, we're with you at every step.

What's covered

What does the policy cover?

Depending on the package you choose, some or all of the cover below can be added to your policy.

01

Property Damage (Third-Party Liability)

If you're at fault in an accident, damage to the other party's vehicle or belongings is covered up to the policy limits. You don't pay for the repairs out of your own pocket.

02

Medical Expenses

Treatment, surgery and recovery costs for third parties injured in the accident are covered.

03

Permanent Disability

If the accident leaves someone permanently disabled, the compensation owed to them is covered by the policy.

04

Loss of Financial Support (Death)

If someone loses their life in the accident, the compensation owed to the dependants they supported is included in the cover.

05

Increased Third-Party Liability (İMM)

Extra protection for damage that goes beyond the compulsory cover limits. It protects your finances especially in accidents involving high-value vehicles.

06

Seat Personal Accident

Pays out in the event of death or disability for the driver and passengers in your own vehicle, who aren't covered by the compulsory policy.

07

Legal Protection

If a lawsuit follows the accident, your lawyer's fees and court costs are covered by the policy.

08

Roadside Assistance

Towing, tyre changes, battery jump-starts and fuel delivery mean you won't be left stranded. Help is available day or night.

09

Minor Repair and Maintenance Support

An add-on package helps with small scratches, dents and routine maintenance, keeping your car in good shape.

Cover, exclusions and limits vary with the package you choose and the policy's general and special terms. To work out the right set of cover for you, call us on 0850 303 28 66.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about Compulsory Traffic Insurance

If your question isn't on the list, give us a call. We'll keep explaining until it all makes sense.

Yes. By law, every motor vehicle on the road in Türkiye must have Compulsory Traffic Insurance. Driving without it can lead to an administrative fine and the vehicle being taken off the road.

No. Traffic insurance only covers the other party's losses. To cover damage to your own vehicle, you need a Comprehensive Car Insurance (Kasko) policy.

The type of vehicle, its model year, how it's used, the province where it's registered and, above all, your no-claims level all affect the price. The cover itself is standard, because it's set by law.

For every year without a claim, you move up one level and your premium goes down. If you make a claim for an accident that was your fault, you move back down.

After the sale you can cancel the policy and get a refund for the remaining period, or ask for it to be transferred to your new vehicle. Just get in touch with us.

Yes. We recommend renewing before the expiry date; if you have an accident while uninsured, the full cost falls on you.

First make sure everyone is safe, then fill in an accident report form and take photos of the scene. After that, let us know and we'll open your claim for you.
