Whatever you're wondering, there's a straight answer
Insurance language is often more complicated than it needs to be. We've grouped the 36 questions we hear most by topic and answered every one in everyday English. If what you're looking for isn't here, we're only a phone call away.
General and agency
What an agency actually does, how we work with you and how to reach us.
6 questions
Atom Sigorta is an insurance agency. We compare products from the insurers we work with on your behalf and recommend the cover that genuinely fits your needs. We handle everything from setting up the policy to renewing it, and we follow up on claims when you need us to.
No. The premium is set by the insurance company, so buying through an agency doesn't push it up. We don't charge you anything extra for comparing quotes, giving advice or chasing a claim.
For the same need, insurers can differ quite a bit on what they cover, the excess and the price. We put several options side by side and explain the differences in plain language, so you can make an informed decision.
Our head office is in Üsküdar, Istanbul. Because quotes, policy set-up and renewals can all be handled by phone, e-mail and online, we can look after customers anywhere in Türkiye.
You can call us on 0850 303 28 66, e-mail hakan@atomsigorta.com or, quickest of all, message us on WhatsApp on the same number. Our office is open Monday – Friday 08:30 – 17:30 and Saturday 08:30 – 14:00. Anything you send outside these hours is picked up on the next working day.
We only use the information you share to prepare quotes, set up your policy and meet our legal obligations. Everything is handled under KVKK, Türkiye's personal data protection law; you'll find the details on our Privacy Policy page.
Quotes and policies
From getting a quote and paying to your policy starting or being cancelled.
6 questions
Quotes are completely free and don't tie you to anything. If you look at the options and don't like them, that's the end of it; we won't chase you with pushy phone calls.
For car policies, the number plate and registration details are enough. For health cover, we need the date of birth and ID details of everyone to be insured, and for home insurance the address, gross floor area and type of construction. For business policies we also ask for the tax number and line of business.
Requests that reach us during working hours usually get a reply the same day. For products that need a risk assessment, such as health insurance, it can take a few working days if the insurer asks for extra information or documents.
You can pay by credit card, debit card or bank transfer. Instalment options vary by product and insurer, so when we send you a quote we also set out in writing the payment options available for that particular policy.
Your policy takes effect on the start date and time shown on it, and we can set that date later if it suits you. As soon as the policy is issued, it's e-mailed to you as a PDF; the digital copy is valid everywhere.
As a rule, the refund is worked out on the days you haven't used; if a claim has been paid on the policy, the refund terms may be different. Compulsory Traffic Insurance, Türkiye's mandatory motor third-party cover, can only be cancelled for a reason you can document, such as selling the car or having it scrapped.
Car insurance
How traffic insurance and Kasko differ, and what affects the price.
6 questions
Compulsory Traffic Insurance covers the other party's losses if you cause an accident; it doesn't pay for damage to your own car. Kasko is optional comprehensive cover that protects your own car against things like collisions, fire and theft. They aren't alternatives to each other; they work together.
Traffic insurance is required by law. Driving without a policy can lead to an administrative fine and your car being taken off the road, and if you have an accident you'll have to pay for the other party's losses out of your own pocket.
The car's make, model, age and market value; how it's used (private or commercial); the driver's age and how long they've held a licence; past claims; and any extra cover you choose all have a direct effect on the premium. Insurers can quote very differently for the same car, so comparing really makes a difference.
Yes. Your no-claims level is tracked through the insurance information systems, so it moves with you to the new insurer. If a claim is paid during the policy period, your level drops, which is why we suggest talking through with us whether it's worth claiming for minor damage.
Let us know the status of your traffic and Kasko policies after the sale. Kasko is usually cancelled and a refund worked out for the remaining days; traffic insurance is either transferred or cancelled. Sending us the notarised sale document speeds things up.
Depending on your needs, you can add extras such as a replacement car, minor repairs, cover abroad, personal accident, glass breakage and legal protection. We'll look at how you use your car and talk about which ones would genuinely be worth having.
Health insurance
What people ask most about complementary and private health policies.
6 questions
Complementary health insurance pays the top-up fee that private hospitals contracted with SGK, Türkiye's social security institution, charge you, and it usually has a lower premium. Private health insurance works independently of SGK and offers a wider network of hospitals and a broader cover structure. Which one suits you depends on your budget and the hospitals you want to use.
Yes. For a complementary health policy to work, your general health insurance with SGK must be active and your treatment must start under SGK. If your SGK cover isn't active, we'll look at private health insurance options instead.
When you apply, you declare your medical history and the insurer carries out a risk assessment. The outcome may be full cover, an exclusion for that particular condition or an extra premium. Declaring everything fully is essential so you don't run into problems later when you make a claim.
Cover such as outpatient treatment usually applies straight away, but there's a waiting period for childbirth and some planned operations. The waiting periods are set out in the policy's special conditions, and we go through them with you one by one when we prepare your quote.
You can insure your spouse and children under the same policy. Family policies are usually easier to manage and tend to work out better on total premium than separate individual policies.
Health policies run for one year and are renewed annually. Your age band and medical inflation affect the renewal premium, and if you meet the conditions you can also earn a lifetime renewal guarantee. We'll remind you when your renewal date is coming up.
Home and DASK
Where compulsory earthquake insurance ends and home insurance begins.
6 questions
DASK, Türkiye's Compulsory Earthquake Insurance, is a legal requirement for homes registered with the land registry. It covers physical damage to the building caused by an earthquake and by the fire, explosion, tsunami or landslide that follows it. You'll also be asked for the policy when setting up electricity, water or gas.
Yes, because DASK only covers the building and only for earthquake-related damage; your belongings aren't included. Home insurance protects against risks such as fire, flooding, theft and glass breakage, and covers your belongings too. Together they give you complete protection.
DASK is taken out by the property owner. As a tenant, you need to insure your own belongings rather than the building itself. A home policy focused on contents covers your losses in situations such as theft or flooding.
The building value is based on the gross floor area and type of construction, while the contents value is based on what it would cost to replace the belongings in your home. Declaring a lower value than the real one leads to underinsurance, which means any claim payment is reduced in proportion.
No. Escape of water covers damage from the plumbing inside your home or water coming from a neighbour; flood refers to damage from floodwater and overflow coming from outside. When choosing a policy, we check that both are included.
DASK policies run for one year and need renewing when they expire. So you don't miss it, we keep track of your policy end date and let you know before it comes round; renewal usually takes just minutes with your address and title deed details.
Making a claim
The steps to take and the documents you'll need if something goes wrong.
6 questions
First make sure everyone is safe and call the emergency services if needed. Then take photos of the scene and the damage, and after a road accident fill in the accident report form in full. After that, call us and we'll handle the whole process together from start to finish.
You can report it directly to the insurance company, but it's usually easier to call us on 0850 303 28 66. We'll open the claim on your behalf, get the file number and follow up on the correspondence between the loss adjuster and the insurer.
Usually you'll need your policy details, a copy of your ID, photos of the damage and the IBAN for the payment. For car claims, add the accident report, the vehicle registration and your driving licence; for home claims, add a document recording the incident, such as a fire brigade or official report.
That depends on the repair terms of your policy. If your policy requires a contracted garage, you use one from the insurer's list and payment goes directly to the garage. If you have a free choice of repairer, you can have the work done wherever you like and add the invoice to your claim.
The insurer pays once the loss adjuster's inspection is complete and all the documents have been submitted. How long that takes depends on the size of the damage, how quickly fault is established and how fast the paperwork comes together. If your claim stalls, we take over chasing it.
Claiming for a small amount can cost you your no-claims discount at the next renewal. We can compare the repair cost with the discount you'd lose and work out together which makes more sense.
