Complementary Health Insurance

If you're covered by SGK, we pay the extra charges at partner private hospitals, so you can focus on your health.

Who is it for?

  • Anyone receiving healthcare through SGK as an employee, a retiree or a dependant
  • People who want private hospital treatment but are put off by the extra charges
  • Families who find private health insurance premiums too heavy for their budget
  • Parents who want their child seen regularly at a private hospital's paediatric clinic
  • People who need frequent appointments, tests and imaging during the year

What is Complementary Health Insurance and what does it do?

When you go to a private hospital in Türkiye, SGK (the state Social Security Institution) pays part of the cost and the remaining difference, the extra charge, comes out of your pocket. Complementary Health Insurance (Tamamlayıcı Sağlık Sigortası) closes exactly that gap: we cover the difference on top of what SGK pays.

At partner healthcare providers, your inpatient costs such as surgery, room and meals, a companion, intensive care, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are covered, as are outpatient costs such as doctor's appointments, tests, imaging and physiotherapy. You get the comfort of leaving hospital without paying.

Anyone under 65 covered by SGK can take out this policy for the first time, and children aged 0 to 17 can have their own policy independent of their parents. You can extend your cover to suit your needs by adding maternity, IVF and earthquake cover for an extra premium.

What's covered

What does the policy cover?

Depending on the package you choose, some or all of the cover below can be added to your policy.

01

Inpatient Treatment

When you need to be admitted to a private hospital that has an agreement with SGK, your policy covers the extra charge above what SGK pays.

02

Surgery Costs

For planned or emergency surgery, the extra charge for the surgeon, anaesthesia and operating theatre is paid, so you can focus on recovering.

03

Intensive Care

The extra charge the private hospital asks for each day in intensive care is covered under your policy terms.

04

Outpatient Treatment

Services that don't need a hospital stay, such as appointments, tests and imaging, are provided without extra charges up to the number of uses defined in your policy. This cover varies by package.

05

Diagnostic Procedures

The extra charge for lab tests and advanced imaging such as MRI and CT scans requested by your doctor is covered. You won't have to put off your tests.

06

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

Sessions recommended for recovery after surgery or for musculoskeletal problems continue without extra charges, up to the number of sessions set in your policy.

07

Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy

The extra charge for each session over the long course of cancer treatment is covered, so you won't have to delay treatment because of money worries.

08

Room, Meals and Companion

During your hospital stay, room and meal costs and the cost of a companion staying with you are covered as part of inpatient treatment.

09

Emergency Services

In situations requiring a visit to A&E, treatment and observation costs are covered at partner providers without extra charges.

10

Minor Surgical Procedures

Procedures that don't need a hospital stay, such as stitches or draining an abscess, are covered at partner providers as defined in your policy.

11

Maternity

Natural birth and caesarean section costs are covered in packages set up with an extra premium. A waiting period applies to this cover, as required by regulations.

Cover, exclusions and limits vary with the package you choose and the policy's general and special terms. To work out the right set of cover for you, call us on 0850 303 28 66.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about Complementary Health Insurance

If your question isn't on the list, give us a call. We'll keep explaining until it all makes sense.

Complementary health insurance works alongside SGK, paying the extra charge left over after SGK's share. Private health insurance, by contrast, covers the full cost under the policy terms, independently of SGK. That's why the complementary option usually has a lower premium.

No. Complementary health insurance works for treatments where SGK contributes, so you need active SGK cover. If you're not covered by SGK, we'd recommend private health insurance.

It's valid at the healthcare providers your policy has agreements with. We'll share the list with you when the policy is set up, so you know in advance which hospitals in your area are covered.

Apart from emergencies, waiting periods apply to some cover. They're longer for cover such as maternity and IVF; the policy wording clearly states the waiting period for each.

Conditions that existed before the policy started are usually excluded or assessed under special terms. Filling in your health declaration fully when you apply is important to avoid surprises later.

At a partner provider, once pre-approval is given for a covered procedure, you leave without paying. If any amounts fall outside the policy or exceed the limit, you'll be told about them.

Yes. Children aged 0 to 17 can be insured even if their parents don't have a policy. Because children tend to need frequent appointments and tests, this is one of the options families choose most.

Policies run for a year, and if not renewed, the cover ends. Renewing without a break matters, so that waiting periods don't start again and the rights you've built up are kept.
