Business and SME Insurance

From your shop to your warehouse, from your machinery to your shop window, we protect everything that keeps your business going with a single policy.

Who is it for?

  • Shopkeepers and small businesses running a shop, store, office, workshop or warehouse
  • SMEs involved in manufacturing that depend on machinery and equipment
  • Businesses that rent their premises and have a liability towards the landlord
  • Trading businesses with high-value stock, a warehouse or a cold store
  • Premises with heavy customer traffic and a liability risk towards third parties

What is Business and SME Insurance and what does it do?

What keeps a business going is not just turnover, but being able to open the shutters every morning. A fire at night, water leaking through the ceiling or a smashed shop window can bring years of hard work to a halt in a few hours.

Business and SME Insurance protects your building, fixtures and fittings, machinery and stock in a single policy. It covers a wide range of risks, from fire and explosion to theft, natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, and broken glass; the loss of income and rent when your business has to stop because of damage can be covered too.

A small shop and a medium-sized factory don't need the same things. We build the list of covers around your business and, where needed, add headings such as machinery breakdown, electronic equipment or employee dishonesty to the package. We're here so that if a bad day comes, you don't have to start again from scratch.

When you take it out with Atom Sigorta

  • When there's a loss, we take care of the paperwork and follow-up for you
  • As your business grows, the policy can be updated during the year
  • Flexible cover designed around the risks specific to your sector
What's covered

What does the policy cover?

Depending on the package you choose, some or all of the cover below can be added to your policy.

01

Fire, lightning and explosion

Covers damage caused by flames, smoke and soot, as well as lightning strikes and explosions. Both the building itself and the fixtures and stock inside it are covered.

02

Theft and damage caused during a break-in

As well as stolen goods, fixtures and equipment, the doors, locks and windows broken by the thief on the way in are covered. Cover applies within the limits set in the policy.

03

Earthquake and volcanic eruption

Physical damage to the building and its contents caused by an earthquake is covered. Separate sums insured can be set for the building and the contents.

04

Flood, inundation and escape of water

As well as floods and flooding from outside, water damage from inside, such as burst pipes, leaks and overflows, is covered. Water damage coming from a neighbouring unit is also included under this heading.

05

Storm, weight of snow and hail

Damage caused by strong winds, a build-up of snow on the roof and hail is included. A separate limit can be set for signs and exterior features.

06

Glass breakage

Covers losses from broken or cracked shop windows, doors, partitions and mirrors. Lettering and coatings on the glass can be covered too.

07

Business interruption and loss of profit

If a covered event forces your business to stop trading, the resulting loss of income and ongoing fixed costs are protected. The period and limit are set in the policy.

08

Loss of rent and temporary premises costs

While you can't use your premises because of damage, the rental income you lose, or the cost of the temporary premises you move to, can be covered.

09

Machinery breakdown

Covers the cost of repairs and replacement parts when your production machinery breaks down due to an operational accident, short circuit or incorrect use.

10

Electronic equipment

Computers, tills, cash registers, cameras and similar electronic equipment are covered against damage from power surges, short circuits or user error.

11

Employee dishonesty and cash in transit

Separate cover with its own limit can be set up for losses caused by an employee abusing your trust, and for cash held in the till or being transported.

12

Third-party liability

Covers compensation claims for bodily injury and property damage suffered by customers or neighbouring businesses because of an incident at your premises. Employer's liability can also be added as extra cover.

Cover, exclusions and limits vary with the package you choose and the policy's general and special terms. To work out the right set of cover for you, call us on 0850 303 28 66.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about Business and SME Insurance

If your question isn't on the list, give us a call. We'll keep explaining until it all makes sense.

Yes. As a tenant, you can insure your own fixtures, machinery and stock, and add tenant's liability cover for your liability towards the landlord. The building itself is usually insured by the landlord.

Earthquake can be added to the business package as extra cover. If the building also needs compulsory earthquake insurance (DASK), we'll look at that together too.

For the building, we use the rebuilding cost; for fixtures and machinery, the replacement value; and for stock, your average stock value. A realistic sum insured matters, so you don't end up underinsured when you need to claim.

Yes, stock is written into the policy with its own sum insured. If your stock levels change a lot from season to season, we recommend telling us upfront, and we'll set up the cover accordingly.

If you've added business interruption cover to your policy, the loss of income and ongoing fixed costs while your business can't trade because of covered damage are paid within the period and limit stated in the policy.

Cover applies from the start date and time written on the policy. Once the risk assessment is complete after you apply, we prepare your policy and send it to you.

First make sure everyone is safe, and call the fire brigade or police if needed. Then call us and take photos of the damage, changing the scene as little as possible. We'll arrange the loss adjuster and follow the claim through.
