What is Pet Insurance and what does it do?

What does the policy cover?
Depending on the package you choose, some or all of the cover below can be added to your policy.
Emergency Treatment
We cover emergency care and treatment for sudden events such as road accidents, falls from a height, swallowing a foreign object or poisoning. Head straight to the clinic and leave the rest to us.
Third-Party Liability
If your pet injures someone or damages their property, we take on the compensation you are liable for. Things get settled without souring relations with the neighbours.
Lost Pet Notices and Reward
If your pet goes missing, we cover what you spend preparing, printing and circulating 'lost pet' notices, as well as the reward for whoever finds them.
Vet Consultation Fees
As an optional add-on, we pay for vet visits when you suspect your pet is unwell. You never have to turn back at the clinic door over a small worry.
Treatment and Surgery
We cover the cost of treatment and surgery needed after an illness or accident. Births and neutering or spaying operations are not included.
Illness and Cancer Treatment
We cover the cost of treating illnesses, including cancer, that appear after the policy starts. For long courses of treatment, this is the support people need most.
Diagnostic Tests and Imaging
X-rays, ultrasound, MRI, CT scans and lab tests are covered, so the tests needed for the right diagnosis are never put off.
In-Patient Treatment
When your pet needs to stay at the clinic under observation, we cover the cost of their stay and care. You won't be worrying about bills while they recover.
One Free Check-Up a Year
You are entitled to one free general check-up a year at our partner vet clinics. Regular check-ups are the easiest way to catch problems early.
Grooming and Care
Once a year, you can get free nail clipping and eye and ear cleaning at partner clinics. The little bits of care are part of your policy.
Training Discount
We arrange discounts on dog training at partner training centres, so you can get professional help before behaviour problems grow.

The policy is for cats and dogs. As a general rule, pets aged between 6 months and 10 years can be covered. Conditions can vary by breed and age, so we check these together when preparing your quote.
Illness-related cover usually has a waiting period; for accidents and emergencies this period is much shorter. When we set up your policy, we give you clear written details of when each cover kicks in.
Routine check-ups, preventive vaccinations, internal and external parasite treatments, hereditary and congenital conditions, cosmetic procedures, and illnesses that existed before the policy started are not covered.
Treatment for conditions that existed before the policy started isn't covered. However, your pet can still be protected against other risks and against any conditions that develop later.
Yes. For some covers to apply, your pet's combination and rabies vaccines, any additional vaccines required for dogs, and parasite treatments must be up to date. We'll go through the vaccination schedule with you.
In an emergency, it's best to go to the nearest clinic; treatment costs are covered under the policy terms. Extra services such as the free check-up, nail clipping and eye and ear cleaning are available at partner clinics.
